Emergency Managers respond to Storm Area 51 event

 | Published on 10/2/2019

Emergency managers and first responders from around the state supported operations in Lincoln and Nye Counties in September in response to the “Storm Area 51” event.

The event, which began as a joke on a Facebook page, promised the opportunity for thousands of people to storm the gate of Area 51, the U.S. Air Force facility located within the Nevada Test and Training Range, and other gates to the Nevada National Security Site.

Approximately 3,000 people traveled to the event, but few actually attempted to storm any of the gates. An estimated 800 people from fire, EMS and law enforcement worked the event. Police arrested six people during the four-day affair.
